Stretch Your Creative Writing Talents

By Marjorie J McDonald

Being a good writer means that you can take only one or two stories and turn them into many stories by changing the way you write about the topic matter. What you add or subtract from the content you have in front of you to give it a novel development.

Alter a narration you have just written and see if you can add drama to the account you have or possibly you can make it into a comedy or a play that a local theater group might consider adding to their choices. Other ways to re-purpose what you have written might be to approach the story from a journalists viewpoint or a documentary approach. You can see that the same story could go in any of those directions and be interesting approaches.

It's all about the blend of the events that were encountered and how you as the writer put them together in your story line and time line of events. For example: If you have ever gone to an airport for a flight and found you took a long time to go all the way thru the security check point than you planned for and then had to run to get to the gate so you did not miss the last boarding call for the flight. You have 2 choices immediately: do you need to go the drama version or the comedy version. Either will stretch your creative writing talents.

You might try both and see which one you've got the most fun with and use that to help continue to grow that sort of writing. Or go with one of the other recommendations or you might try every one of the suggestions for developing the subject. It is important as a writer to stretch yourself and have a good time doing that with your topics.

It's all in the method you take with the subject. This sort of writing stretches you to consider the easiest way to put the information and events into your story in such a fashion as to get the 2 contrasting results. It's usually possible to use the twists to develop your writing resources so you can see things from 1 or 2 viewpoints.
