Why It May Be Important To Learn Shorthand

By Walter Walsh

Many people that they have to learn shorthand with the goal of speeding up their speed in writing. It is a method using symbols that can be used for fast note taking when it is required to remember a lecturer's words. Thus one will be able to fulfill their obligations by producing a report, article, or a letter with much of the data that are contained in the notes.

Actually learning shorthand requires that one pick a particular system out of the many that exist and take the time to practice it through a series of exercises and drills. These exercises are most often give to a student by the one who is the teacher in the class they are attending.

Some of the characteristics that many of these systems usually have in common are unique treatments used for vowels, abbreviations for frequently used phrases or words, and the recording of the sounds of speech rather than the spelling. Thus one of the first required lessons is the learning of all those symbols that are used.

Another lesson one will have the opportunity to learn is how to omit the words that are superfluous. Thus allowing the speedy recording of the most important information one hears in order to be able to refer back to it if necessary.

Numbers often get a separate lesson or two in many of these courses. Which will then allow for their recording without the loss of any other facts that follow due to loss of recording speed. A big plus for those who must be very accurate in their reporting of certain things.

The fact that one has to learn shorthand will give them the skills necessary to be more efficient in what they do. Thus after their courses have been completed their reporting of particular information will have a higher percentage of accuracy. Thus allowing for a chance to get recognized in the right way for their hard work.
