Titles like Ms., Mrs., or Mr. must not be spelled out in your salutation.

Salutation is important in a cover letter. You need to be familiar in the name of the person you are writing when making an application letter. Use Dear with the recipient's name in the salutation. It aids in making your future employer recognize you are showing respect to him or her. This helps you in getting extra point from your letter.
