How To Speak Your Mind

By Tiffany Nash

For most people, the mere thought of speaking before an audience causes men's hands to go clammy and their hearts to pound like a kettledrum. People fear public speaking more than they do their own deaths and this is shown in statistics. It shows that for the majority, people would rather die in silence than take a chance to speak their minds in society. It could be conformity and being afraid to say something irrelevant.

Public speaking is important and this lies in the fact that as social organisms, it will do you more good to have the ability to get your message across in the right way rather than the attempt to do a better job. If the boss does not even notice it, then hunkering down faithfully to work is virtually useless.

The importance of public speaking is that it is inevitable. Sooner or later, you will be forced to enter the arena and speak to a sea of eyes and ears. It would always be better to meet that challenge on your terms before that happens.

Below are some points you need to think about.

Career. People at work who can communicate better go up the ladder faster. Hiring people with public speaking and communication skills is what employers prefer to do. Not only does speaking with your colleagues put them at ease about you, it also helps you get the job done faster and you are able to get what you want done a lot more easier.

Mental health. Feeling better about yourself is a plus. Improving your self-confidence, poise, character and sense of fun is successfully speaking before a live, listening audience. Besides being less nervous and self-conscious, you will also be able to control higher levels of stress. However, this doesn't mean that you won't be making mistakes. You will be making mistakes for the first few times and what you can do is learn from them and keep going on. If you're consistent, that paralyzing fear of speaking to a large audience will be a thing of the past.

What are your opportunities? Public speaking positively impacts all aspects of your life. Being able to speak publicly opens up new opportunities unimagined in your former life. You will find yourself more eager to participate in causes you sincerely believe in, interact more with people of the opposite sex. To clear up the problem, you will find yourself assertively asking questions as well as taking the lead in a cause or calmly explaining a bad situation without losing it. The effect of public speaking on your life is exponential.

To the human repertoire, public speaking is an essential addition. Another important thing is technical knowledge but taking your abilities and talents beyond the borders of your own skin and into the hearts and minds of others is the ability to speak well.
