How to Get New Readers to Read Your Blog

By Erica Sanchez

All bloggers want to gain new and good readers for their blogs--readers that don't just love you for your content but who respect you as a person as well. Getting traffic nowadays isn't as hard as it used to be because there are just so many different avenues that can net you relevant visitors. The question, then, is, when you are a blogger, what can you do to help ensure that you're getting lots more qualified visitors who are the most likely to turn into loyal readers?

Commenting on related blogs is a method that is often underestimated by bloggers just because it's time consuming and is looked as slow way to get traffic to your blog. If you want new readers who will be loyal, however, the best place to find them is on related blogs. Leaving smart and relevant comments on blogs in your niche is a great way of attracting the sorts of people who regularly read comments sections. You get to showcase the type of content you can offer when you leave comments and that makes readers want to check out your blog and, hopefully, start a subscription to it.

If you've been blogging for a while or at least are familiar with the basics, you know how important trackbacks can be. When you send out creative and well thought out trackbacks about a blogger's original post, you will get a fantastic return on your own investment of time as long as it penetrates. Trackbacks were invented for a reason and when you fulfill that reason it will quickly become apparent that socializing with other bloggers and improving your own network gets a lot easier and not nearly as intense. The next time you come across someone's blog post that you think is trackback-worthy, don't second guess yourself. Getting into active discussions on forums is a great way to get more leverage for your blog posts because people that are usually found discussing/debating on forums are the ones that are most likely to comment on blogs too. Creating new and informative threads on blogs and simultaneously giving honest value to the other members in your forum can help make them curious about you and the approaches you take. This way you get to create relationships with your target market through the forums and channel that interest into traffic for your blog.

When you're trying to grow your blog's readership via various methods, how can guest blogging be left behind? If you have yet to try out the power of guest blogging, now is the time to get your feet wet. You will quickly see that when you publish guest posts within popular blogs or on blogs that get lots of traffic, your own readership will automatically get higher because your guest post will generate all sorts of traffic for your own blog. Begin by finding blogs that relate to yours and that openly accept guest posts and after you've found success through that, you should move on and contact the bigger blogs to see if they might accept guest posts of yours.

There is only so much you can do to increase your blog traffic flow and find new readers, but first you have to make sure that you are offering consistent value. Once your blog gains a strong position in the eyes of your target audience and gets known for giving away high quality content, everything else will simply fall in place. So what are you waiting for? Start putting these tips to work immediately and see how many readers start flowing in.
