The Benefits Of Public Speaking

By Tiffany Nash

For most people, their hearts will start to pound like a kettledrum and their hands will to clammy because of the mere thought that they would have to speak before an audience. According to statistics, people are more afraid of public speaking that they do their own deaths. A majority of people would rather die in silence rather than take a chance to speak their minds in society. Maybe it's conformity and a fear of saying something irrelevant.

Rather than the attempt to do a better job, the importance in public speaking lies in the fact that we are social organisms which means the ability to get your message across in the right way will do more good for you. It is virtually useless to hunker down faithfully to work if the boss does not even notice it.

Public speaking is vital and this lies in the fact that it is inevitable. Sooner or later, entering the arena is what you will be forced to do and you need to speak to a sea of eyes and ears. Before that happens, it would always be better to meet that challenge on your terms.

Here are some points you can think about.

Career. People at work who can communicate better go up the ladder faster. Hiring people with public speaking and communication skills is what employers prefer to do. Not only does speaking with your colleagues put them at ease about you, it also helps you get the job done faster and you are able to get what you want done a lot more easier.

Mental. You will notice that you feel better about yourself. By successfully speaking before a live, listening audience, your self-confidence, poise, character, and sense of fun will be improved. Not only will you become less self-conscious, you will also be less nervous and can control higher levels of stress. Still, it doesn't mean you're free from making mistakes. For the first few times, you can expect to make mistakes so just keep going on and learn from them. If you are consistent, then the paralyzing fear of speaking to a large audience will be a thing of the past.

Your opportunities. Having a positive impact on all aspects of your life is public speaking. In your former life, being able to speak publicly will open up new opportunities unimagined. Besides interacting with more people of the opposite sex, you will also find yourself to be more eager when it comes to participating in causes you sincerely believe in. You will find yourself assertively asking questions to clear up a problem, take the lead in a cause, or calmly explain a thorny situation without losing it. Public speaking therefore has an exponential effect on your life.

To the human repertoire, public speaking is an essential addition. Another important thing is technical knowledge but taking your abilities and talents beyond the borders of your own skin and into the hearts and minds of others is the ability to speak well.
