Have You Ever Questioned About The Ordinary LIfe Of An Adventure Hero Between Stories?

By Erin Richards

More than only giving off a menacing personality, Dirk Pitt is also someone with a huge sense of adventure. A hero to several who know him, he manages to keep his sense of humor under stress. Expertly flying both fixed wing and rotary aircraft as an accomplished army pilot, Pitt has received many commendations for his courage. A Senator's son and a pop of twins with a passion for collecting classic automobiles; Dirk still manages to make time to unwind with a little tequila with lime and salt.

As much as a constant traveler can have roots, Dirk Pitt makes his home on the grounds of the Washington National Airport in an old reworked airplane hanger. On a common drive to work at the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA) where Pitt is in charge, he gets the chance to think about many of the sites that other locals take for granted when they live in Washington, D.C.

As the head of NUMA, while simply on his way to work Dirk can admire all the many stone figures and tributes in his area; lots of the same sites that visitors from across the world visit Washington, D.C. To experience and explore. Simply to cite a couple of these sights, we have the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, and the Memorial to World War II. He also passes by the Capitol, the National Mall, and Georgetown University not to mention CIA main headquarters the Pentagon and the White House.

But of all the sights Pitt sees, Arlington National Cemetery may remain the most suggestive to him being the location where fellow comrades could have been buried. A close 2nd would be the US Air Force Memorial, since he is after all a former student of the US Air Force Academy.

In his daily endeavors at NUMA to help preserve and explore the world's oceans and many shipwrecks, Dirk Pitt remains a complicated man made up of many alternative personas and interests. He welcomes the delicate coming together of modern technologies with traditional values. Dirk always maintains his deep appreciation of all the sacrifices people have made to make this country attainable. Together, his thanks for what they represent together with his very own patriotism continues to drive Dirk Pitt's passion to protect life as we all know it at any cost; whether or not it is an individual or a complete population.
