SEO Factors Worth Keeping in Mind

By Jack Morgan

Search Engine Optimization has gone way beyond the act of stuffing keywords into every inch of on-page content. It takes a different approach today to make it to the top of the search engine results - and to stay on top. Make sure to include these factors in the SEO strategy you plan for your sites.

Search engines use the H1 tag to discover what your site is about so it's very important to use your primary keyword in that tag. The H1 tag is the biggest way by far to boost your site's ranking in the search engines as it gives the search engines a clear picture of what your site is about. You're not limited to the beginning or ending of your headline for the keywords either - it can be anywhere in the heading and still have the desired results. It may not seem like all that big of a deal but the results it can have on your site's ranking is a very big deal.

Organize External Links with Anchor Text: When it comes to effective search engine optimization you should know that external link building happens to be the most important factor to focus on. If you've got enough high quality incoming links to your page, you'll be able to outbid your competition and get better rankings. However, obtaining direct backlinks is not what you should be putting your energy into. Instead you should put your energy into getting backlinks that have your keyword put in the anchor text. This is a requirement because the anchor text will tell the search engines the phrase that you want your webpage to rank highly for. So, for example, if your keyword is dog training, then ensure that the anchor text of most of your incoming links has this keyword. Also, remember that you should make sure that variations of this keyword are entered so that it does not give the search engines the wrong impression.

Were you aware that Google makes note of the keywords that show up in the permalinks for your blog or website? If you're writing an article on a long tail keyword phrase then you should make sure that your keyword appears in the permalink since that will have an impact on how the page's ranking. This will give the search engines a clear idea on what the page is about, besides looking into the title and the H1 tag. If you do a bit of research, you'll find that many pages that get ranked on the first page of the search engines have the targeted keyword in the URL; it's another thing when the keyword is present in the main domain name itself.

If you are consistent with efforts to make these factors part of your normal SEO routine you'll see your sites search engine status really start to climb.
